Morgan Summers-Slaughter, LGSW

Clinician

(She/Her)

Morgan Summers-Slaughter is a Licensed Graduate Social Worker who works to provide an affirming, supportive space for healing and growth for all clients regardless of age, sexual orientation, gender identity, religious background and practices (or lack thereof), or any other factor. Morgan works with individuals and couples of all ages surrounding a variety of issues, including issues related to sex, sexuality, and gender identity. She is particularly interested in working with young adults, those in and around the LGBTQ+ community, and those navigating issues related to leaving, questioning, or changing a faith tradition.

Along with her Masters in Social Work from Catholic University, Morgan has a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education from Utah State University and a Masters in Communication Studies from Ball State University. A former teacher at the high school and collegiate levels, Morgan found that the part of teaching she loved most was building relationships with students and helping to empower them to tackle the various obstacles they faced in class as well as in their life outside of school.

Her varied educational background contributes to her flexibility in using a variety of therapeutic approaches with clients. Though she tends to build from an attachment-based foundation, she regularly uses elements of CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), motivational interviewing, and EFT (Emotion Focused Therapy) to assist her clients in realizing growth and achieving their goals. Clients often describe Morgan as direct, transparent, and flexible.

Morgan conducts all sessions virtually through telehealth. She is licensed to practice in Washington, DC and Maryland and is being supervised at Heartwerq by Kyle T. Collins, LICSW.
