Lori Shapiro is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Supervisor with more than 20 years of experience. Her practice focuses on working with individuals, couples, and families on a variety of issues, including couples counseling, sex therapy, relationship difficulties, sexual and gender identity support, as well as unique individual challenges.

Lori has received degrees from Florida Atlantic University and Barry University (Master’s in Social Work) and also has a certification in sex therapy from the Modern Institutes for Sex Therapy. She has worked in a variety of settings, including outpatient mental health, crisis stabilization units, and private practice. She also has a great deal of experience working with clients who identify as LGBTQIA+ or with alternate/non-conforming lifestyles, including BDSM, polyamory and others.

Lori believes every person, couple or family she works with has unique needs and tailors her approaches accordingly. She effectively utilizes a combination of cognitive behavioral therapies with mindfulness and also leverages techniques from emotionally-focused therapy with couples. Her clients describe her as active, honest and engaging and they enjoy her genuine approach and “outside-the-box” style. Lori is passionate about her work and focuses on building a safe space to learn, heal, grow, and talk about any topic or interest.

Lori is licensed to practice in Washington, DC, Maryland, Virginia and Florida.
